TB testing in Mbagala, Dar Es Salaam

Get tested!

As Mukikute we would like testing for TB to be as common as testing for malaria is now. Regular testing is one of the ways to reduce the number of people suffering and dying from TB every year. So if people are having a fever, they should not only be tested for malaria, but for TB as well. Are you coughing severely? Get tested for TB! Loosing weight without reason? Get tested for TB.

 The test

A nurse testing for TB will take a sample of your sputum. You spit in a little tube and that is what gets tested. If the bacteria for TB is found, the doctor will recommend you start treatment. Tests for TB are available at all the health facilities in the country, but there might be a waiting line and sometimes a doctor or nurse won't suggest TB testing to you. Don't hesitate to ask for a TB test if you are suffering from one or more of the five signs of TB: coughing, coughing with blood, fever, excessive night sweat or unexpected weight loss.
